Securing your WordPress Site

Salutations, greetings and Shalom people. Welcome back once again to a WordPress segment on advicehow.com, the best advice and how to guide on the interweb ever!

How goes it?

Since we’ve been covering WordPress over the past few days, we figured we would talk about one of the most significant areas of being online, no matter the platform: Security.

More specifically, how you can secure your WordPress blog against unwanted and potentially crippling security breaches.

This is something I had to learn the hardest way with my last blog. I had just arrived in India, and decided, as any writer would, to startup a blog on the whole experience, and it was brilliant fun. Friends,  University colleagues, former and current co-workers and even family members who had never been to India began to see it as a great resource on India viewed through the eyes of a brand new resident. And it was funny, really funny as you would expect a series of experiences completely alien to a person would be.

So I got me a website developer, paid not insignificant money and went to work. 4 months down the line there was nothing. It was over, no more blog, no access, just a shattered world and concerned friends and family. It wasn’t something that happened to me or because of me. It was because my developer decided, for reasons he never managed to explain to an astounded me, not to bother with securing the code. Turns out, that’s quite common here, and developers say that’s a security aspect, which requires another specialist dude.

Anyhow, there was a simple way of having avoided all that. And I should have relied on my own efforts as opposed to just going in blind.

So to save you guys the heartache, a huge piece of advice.

Get yourself the Website Defender plugins for WordPress. There is no reason you can’t and every reason you should.

The Website Defender has features that are aimed at minimizing the information available about your site that may be accessed by hackers.

I also suggest you sign up for the Website Defender account that exponentially increases your security cover. From File Integrity Validation to regular scans and monitoring of your website the Website Defender account is the best protection you can get for your site.

And it’s not even expensive. At  guys? Any horror stories? Or maybe tips on how to secure my WordPress website?
