Adding User Account to Administrators Group in Windows 8
Posted in Tech Guides By Vivek Nayyar+ On January 9, 2012What is a Group?
A group in any operating system is a logical container that can contain other groups and user accounts in it. Sole purpose of a group is to simplify administrative tasks by providing administrators single click management when it comes to security and assigning permissions. Although permissions on any object can be assigned to individual user accounts that administrators create, it still makes quite a sense that all user accounts must be added to a group and the permissions are given on the group itself. This helps administrators save decent amount of time when they want to change permissions on a specific object, for example a folder or file. In this way administrators do not have to change the permissions for every individual user account. They can change the permissions just one-time for the group and the modified permissions are applied to all the user accounts which are the members of that group.
Under normal circumstances built-in local or domain groups are quite sufficient for home and production environments and administrators can use them to grant or revoke permissions and to add or remove user accounts. It is only in medium or large-scale organizations where it becomes necessary for the administrators to manually create groups.
Before Adding User Accounts to Groups in Microsoft Windows 8
Although administrators can add any user account to any group in Microsoft Windows 8, they still must take utmost precaution before doing so. The reason behind this is that Microsoft always recommends least privilege policy which ensures that users must not get the privileges to any object or operating system which they do not need deserve. This means that users should only be granted the permissions to any object or operating system which they actually need while working on Windows 8 computer on a regular basis. An example to can be that a user who logs on to Windows 8 computer just to type documents and check emails must not be granted the permissions of the administrator.
It is strongly recommended that administrators must always plan the strategies and assess the level of permissions that user accounts must get before they actually assign the permissions to any group that contains target user accounts.
